A blue plastic drum is a popular and affordable option for many industrial companies because it can safely carry oils, foodstuffs, dangerous chemicals, hazardous trash, and more.

High-density polyethylene is used to create polyethylene drums, also known as plastic drums, which are industrial-grade containers (HDPE). Compared to steel drums, they are thought to be more affordable and lighter in weight.
Polyethylene drums are often blue. Blue eventually became the accepted colour for food storage. The blue pigment used in HDPE barrels is more UV light resistant than natural blue pigment and does not quickly reveal dirt or residue. The typical food-grade drum is blue.
