A threshold that is misplaced is one that is situated somewhere along the runway other than where the runway officially starts. The length of the runway that can be used for landings in this direction only is reduced when a threshold is moved. For takeoffs in either direction and landings from the opposite direction, the runway section behind a shifted threshold is open. A threshold may be moved either permanently (because of things like construction projects) or temporarily.
